Excellence in Teacher Training Since 1906
Established by the British Government following the historic Wood's Despatch (1854), our institution has been shaping educators for over a century.
Originally christened as The Secondary Training College in 1906, we began as an autonomous institute conferring our own Diploma in Teaching. After India's independence, we became part of the Government of Maharashtra's educational system.
With Mr. J.N. Fraser as our first Principal, we have since had 44 distinguished scholars lead our institution, each contributing to our legacy of educational excellence.
Today, we proudly serve as a component of the first-ever Cluster University in Maharashtra - Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, Mumbai, while remaining owned by the Government of Maharashtra.
